Tabular data is the lifeblood of finance, accounting, operations, and analytics — and a huge amount of it arrives as PDF. Bank statements, invoices, vendor reports, sales summaries, payroll exports, and government filings all routinely come in PDF form, then someone has to retype the numbers into Excel because PDF tables don't copy and paste cleanly. Dokfo's free PDF-to-Excel converter eliminates that retyping. Upload a PDF containing one or many tables and Dokfo detects the table structure, identifies rows and columns, and rebuilds them as proper cells in an XLSX file. The output opens cleanly in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Apple Numbers, LibreOffice Calc, or any other XLSX-compatible spreadsheet tool. For PDFs that were originally exported from a spreadsheet or accounting tool, results are nearly perfect — every row, every column, every cell preserved. For scanned PDFs of paper tables, run OCR first using Dokfo's OCR PDF tool to add a text layer, then convert. Your time is better spent analyzing the data than retyping it.
How to Convert PDF to Excel — Step by Step
1
Upload your PDF by clicking the upload area or dragging the file onto the page. The PDF should contain tabular data — invoices, statements, lists.
2
Click "Convert". Dokfo analyzes the table structure on every page, identifies row and column boundaries, and rebuilds them as native spreadsheet cells.
3
Download the XLSX file. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet editor — the data is now in editable cells, ready for sorting, filtering, and formulas.
Why Convert PDF to Excel With Dokfo?
True Cell-Level Extraction
Tables are extracted into real spreadsheet cells, not blob text. Each row and column is preserved so you can immediately filter, sort, or apply formulas.
Standard XLSX Output

Multi-Page, Multi-Table Support
Documents with tables spanning many pages, or with multiple tables per page, are detected and exported as separate sheets or merged consistently.
Privacy-First Processing
Files are processed via TLS-encrypted pipeline and permanently deleted within minutes. We never log file content or use uploaded data for any other purpose.
When to Convert PDF to Excel
- Pull line items from supplier invoices into Excel for accounts payable, expense tracking, or audit reconciliation.
- Extract transactions from bank statement PDFs to import into accounting software, budgeting tools, or tax-prep systems.
- Convert quarterly or annual financial reports (10-Ks, P&Ls, balance sheets) into editable spreadsheets for analysis.
- Recover spreadsheet data from a PDF when the original Excel file is lost or unavailable.
- Migrate tabular data from legacy reports or government filings into modern data systems for analytics or BI tools.
Conversion Is Secure and Private
PDF-to-Excel requires server-side processing because precise table-structure detection benefits from heavier computation than browsers can do efficiently. Dokfo uses a private TLS-encrypted pipeline: your PDF is uploaded over HTTPS, processed in an isolated worker, and the resulting XLSX is returned. Both files are permanently deleted within minutes. No copies are kept, no logs of file content, no third-party sharing. For highly sensitive data, redact identifiers first using Dokfo's Redact PDF tool.

Frequently Asked Questions About PDF to Excel
How do I extract tables from a PDF?
Upload your PDF, click "Convert", and download the XLSX file. Dokfo automatically detects table boundaries and reconstructs rows and columns as proper spreadsheet cells.
How accurate is the table extraction?
For PDFs originally exported from spreadsheets, accounting software, or BI tools, accuracy is very high — typically 95-99% of cells are extracted correctly. Complex multi-line cells or merged headers may need minor cleanup.
Does it work for scanned PDFs?
Scanned PDFs need OCR first. Run Dokfo's OCR PDF tool to add a searchable text layer, then convert. Without OCR, the converter has no text to extract from a scanned image.
Will multi-page tables convert correctly?
Yes. Tables that span multiple pages are detected and merged into a single continuous sheet. Page breaks and repeating headers are handled automatically.
Are formulas in the original PDF preserved?
PDFs only show calculated values, not the underlying formulas — so the converted XLSX contains the displayed numbers as static values. You can reapply your own formulas after conversion.
Are my files kept on your servers?
No. Files are uploaded over HTTPS, processed in an isolated worker, and permanently deleted within minutes. We never log content or train on uploaded data.
Is there a file-size limit?
Free users can convert PDFs up to 50 MB. Paid plans support up to 200 MB. For larger files, split first using Dokfo's Split PDF tool.
Will the output XLSX have a watermark?
Never. Dokfo never adds watermarks to converted files.
