Editing a PDF used to mean buying Adobe Acrobat Pro or wrestling with one of dozens of clunky desktop tools. Dokfo's free PDF editor brings the most-needed editing capability — adding text on top of any page — directly into your browser. Place text annotations exactly where you want them, set the font size, pick from a palette of colors, and download the edited PDF in seconds. This is the right tool for filling in flat PDF forms that don't have actual form fields, adding signatures or initials in custom positions, marking up a contract with notes, correcting a typo in a final document when the source file is gone, or labeling a diagram. Everything stays inside your browser — your PDF is never uploaded to a server, which makes the editor safe even for confidential contracts and personal documents. The editor preserves the original PDF content underneath your annotations. You're not destroying the source — you're laying new text on top, just like writing on a printed page. The result is a clean, exported PDF with both the original content and your additions baked in.
How to Edit a PDF — Step by Step
1
Upload your PDF by clicking the upload area or dragging the file. Dokfo loads it locally and renders an interactive preview of every page.
2
Type the text you want to add, pick a font size (6-72) and color (5 options: black, red, blue, green, gray), then click on the PDF where you want it placed.
3
Click "Apply" to bake your annotations into the PDF. The edited file downloads automatically — original content preserved, your additions on top.
Why Edit PDFs With Dokfo?
Click-to-Place Text
Drop text exactly where you want it by clicking on the PDF preview. No struggling with form fields that don't exist or text boxes that won't position right.
Custom Size and Color
Set font size from 6 to 72 points and pick from black, red, blue, green, or gray. Useful for everything from tiny annotations to bold headings.
Multi-Page Editing
Navigate between pages and add text to any of them. One PDF, one editing session — no need to handle each page in a separate tool.
Browser-Based Privacy
Your PDF never leaves your device. Edits happen in your browser using pdf-lib, so contracts, ID forms, and confidential paperwork stay private.
When to Use the PDF Editor
- Fill in a flat PDF form (one without real form fields) by typing your answers directly on top of the blank lines.
- Add a signature, initials, or date to a contract when you don't need a full electronic-signature workflow.
- Correct a typo in a finalized PDF when the original Word file is no longer accessible.
- Mark up a contract, proposal, or report with handwritten-style notes for a colleague or counterparty.
- Label diagrams, screenshots, or technical drawings with annotations before sharing for review.
Edits Happen on Your Device
Dokfo's PDF editor runs 100% client-side using pdf-lib. Your file is read into browser memory, annotations are added in-memory, and the edited PDF is rebuilt locally — all without any server upload. This privacy guarantee makes the editor safe for sensitive documents like financial forms, ID applications, and confidential agreements. Open Developer Tools → Network tab during editing to verify zero PDF data is transmitted.

Frequently Asked Questions About Editing PDFs
How do I add text to a PDF?
Upload your PDF, type the text you want to add in the input box, choose a font size and color, then click on the PDF preview where you want it placed. Repeat for each annotation. Click apply to download the edited file.
Can I edit text on multiple pages?
Yes. Use the page navigation controls to switch between pages, then add text on any page. All annotations across all pages are baked into the final PDF when you click apply.
Can I change text color and size?
Yes. Choose from 5 colors (black, red, blue, green, gray) and set font size from 6 to 72 points. Each annotation can use its own color and size.
Can I edit existing text in the PDF?
Dokfo's editor focuses on adding new text on top of the PDF, not modifying existing text. To replace existing text, use Dokfo's PDF to Word tool to convert to an editable DOCX, edit there, then re-export to PDF.
Will my edits look natural in the PDF?
Yes. Annotations are rendered with proper anti-aliasing using the standard PDF font. They look like text added in any other PDF editor.
Can I move or delete an annotation after placing it?
Yes. Before clicking apply, you can drag annotations to reposition them or delete them entirely. After applying, the text is baked into the PDF and can't be edited within Dokfo's tool.
Are my files uploaded to your servers?
No. The entire workflow runs in your browser using pdf-lib. Your PDF never leaves your device. Open the Network tab in Developer Tools during editing to verify zero data transmission.
Will the edited PDF have a watermark?
Never. Dokfo never adds watermarks to edited PDFs.
